THE COLCHESTER FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL 2010 - 26/27 JUNE - LOWER CASTLE PARK
The famous Colchester Food and Drink Festival is set to be the biggest and the best this year. ‘We have a record number of stalls this year and a new music programme’ said organiser Don Quinn. ‘This annual event brings all the community together, it will be opened by the Mayor, Sonia Lewis and Britain’s best Town Crier Robert Needham roaring out the Town’s greetings to its guests. It unites the communities ethnic groups through sharing different food and culture. From the pork pie to the sizzling hot chilli.’
The Festival is held in Colchester’s national award winning Castle Park. ‘It is a jewel of a park, a national winner and we are always delighted to hold our Festival here. Colchester Borough Council staff have created this utterly beautiful park and we are very proud of them.
Eat drink and be merry at the Festival
Our Celebrity Kitchen with Mark David and Malcolm Long will be performing all day with their special guests. They will be showing you some very special recipes. Of course you will find many of the ingredients in the food halls and gaily coloured marquees around you.
The Sausage Sizzle competition will be finding the best sausage in the Region and our customers will have the opportunity to try some of them.
Lots of fresh out of the water seafood from our own coast line including Mersea oysters.
Customers at the Festival have lots of opportunity to try before they buy. Everything from gourmet chocolate, rare breed meats, local wine and beer, to the humble whelk.
You can also ramble amongst the flowers at the Rose and Horticultural Society marquee and marvel at the Colchester Rose Show entries free of charge.
We have great support for the event from all our local press, radio and print, and we are very grateful.
Our famous local celebrity Ken Crowther will be there with his BBC’s Ask Ken team broadcasting live from the Festival.
Heart Radio with our own Colchester star Jonathan Hemmings will be broadcasting for the show and bringing you hours of entertainment.
Local newspapers will be on site giving out freebies and advice.
Free car parking for all in Kings Meadow off Catchpole Road
Kids can have a donkey ride or have their face painted whilst mum and dad have a leisurely snack or gourmet coffee.
Some of the best beers in the country will be on offer including award winners from national and local beer festivals at the Pikestaff Inn a festival favourite. The Army will also be there selling their new Dakota Ale for charity which you can try with their succulent pig roast over wood.
Food stalls come from all over the world alongside local home grown producers.
‘We are so lucky to be in this beautiful park and the marquees mean rain or shine we always have a good time.’
We will be unveiling the ‘Green Room’ at the event a really chic place to be.
The Festival is now in its seventh year has become the largest of its kind and one of the largest in the UK dedicated to food and drink it attracts over 10,000 people to the town.
There will be a giant raffle to support Help for Heroes and the Festival continues the tradition of inviting all veterans wearing their medals to be their guest free at the Festival.
The British Legion will also be present.
The Festival supports Fair Trade and other charities with free stand space.
