The Red Lion, Hinxton

August 2010 Issue: 32

August Greetings from The Red Lion Inn Hinxton

Hello from all at The Red Lion Inn Hinxton.

We have had one of our busiest months here - thank you to all who joined us again. It has been great to see the garden being so fully appreciated and the team tell me they feel much fitter and healthier as a result.

Thank you again to those who voted for us in the Cambridge Local Secrets 2010 awards this year. We are delighted to have retained out title, Best Restaurant in the South of Cambridge (which we have now held since 2008), as well as being voted into the Overall Top Ten Best of the Best Restaurants in Cambridgeshire and West Suffolk.

Don't forget to give us a call or drop us an email if you know you are coming - it will guarantee you a table (inside or out) and gives us a chance to provide the service for which we like to think we are known.

Kind regards
Alex

Chef Taster Menus - now one Saturday night every month

(Our next one is this Saturday 31st July - two tables left if you are quick)

Head Chef Peter Friskey is now offering one of his Chef Taster Menus on one Saturday night every month (along side our usual a la carte menu) - see adjacent box for dates coming up.

We will be holding the price for a short while at £40 for 6 courses (or £50 to include four matched wines).

See menu attached here and please let us know asap if you are up for one of the last two Taster tables this Saturday (there are more tables available for a la carte).

Refurbishment Programme finally reaches
the Pub Loos

If you would like to pay your nostalgic last respects to our historic loos, you only have a few weeks left.  The time has come to say farewell to the chocolate box prints and pink porcelain.

Standby for the faux Friesian cowhide wall coverings and cosmos effect star studded ceilings (well something a little more contemporary anyway).

Work starts towards the end of August and you will be pleased to hear that the restaurant and bar loos will not be worked upon simultaneously.

Local Secrets Awards 2010

The Red Lion team came up trumps again at this year's Local Secrets Awards.
The online voting attracted a record 1340 voters - thank you if you were one of them.

We retained the title (now held since 2008) "Best of South Cambridge: Saffron Walden, Royston, Haverhill and area"
beating:
Chequers (Fowlmere), Cricketers (Clavering), King William IV (Heydon),
Hole in the Wall (Little Wilbraham), Pear Tree Inn (Hildersham),
Pink Geranium (Melbourn), Sheene Mill (Melbourn), Plough Inn (Hundon),
Eight Bells (Saffron Walden).

We were also voted into the "Top 10 Best of the Best restaurants in Cambridgeshire & West Suffolk" - along with Midsummer House, Hotel du Vin and Alimentum amongst others.

This is another fine feather in the cap for Mike, Peter and the team - well deserved congratulations to them.

Ralph Hochar of Chateau Musar is Back! logo
Saturday 2nd October

Remember that Ralph Hochar has offered to return for a second Chateau Musar Wine Dinner on Saturday 2nd October which he will be co-hosting again with wine merchant Matthew Clark.  Tickets are already getting snapped up for this event, so don't wait to reserve your place to join Chateau Musar in their 80th Anniversary celebrations!

We will be devising a special menu over the coming months to match the 4 or 5 wines that Ralph wishes to feature - see last year's menu.

Tickets will be £60 to include the full range of Chateau Musar wines set for the evening (or £40 for the drivers who feel they could not do the full range justice - with the opportunity to "pay-as-you-go" for selected wines by the glass).

There will be the unique chance again to buy some Chateau Musar vintages not otherwise available to the public.

Feedback Thank You

Many of you have been kind enough to fill out some feedback forms on your visits. Thank you so much for these - it is so helpful to us in determining where we need to focus our attention.

If you have not had this opportunity or would like to give us some pointers on how we could improve (or just to give us a little encouragement) then please do email me directly
(alex@redlionhinxton.co.uk) or let us know through the
website.

Congratulations to Julia Parry who won the July draw for a dinner for two from the feedback cards.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Alex
