Alde Valley Spring Festival 2013
Saturday 20 April 2013 - Monday 20 May 2013 Saxmundham, Suffolk (map)

A 4 week celebration of food, farming, landscapes and the arts.

The Alde Valley Spring Festival is a four week celebration of food, farming, landscape and the arts that takes place just after Easter each Spring. Its home is a small livestock farm in the village of Great Glemham in the Upper Alde Valley, a few miles upstream of Snape Maltings, the Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts and Aldeburgh town.

The Festival first came into existence in 2009, having grown out of the annual “Easter Retreat” art exhibition. This started in a cottage next to Great Glemham church in 2003. The Festival welcomes small numbers of regional, British and international artists for both informal and formal residencies. It also celebrates the remarkable food scene of the beautiful Alde Valley in East Suffolk – one of the few river valley systems in England that is still superstore-free from source to sea.

RAW - The Artisan Wine Fair
Sunday 19 May 2013 - Monday 20 May 2013 Old Truman Brewery, 83 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL (map)

RAW is one of the most exciting, and certainly the largest, collection of fine, natural, organic and biodynamic wine artisans ever to come together in the capital. The two-day celebration of some of the best wine talent in the world offers visitors the chance to sample over 800 different wines from more than 200 growers. As well as tastings, the show features talks from the world's leading experts and a selection of incredible food by renowned artisan food producers and restaurants.

The independent fair is organised by Isabelle Legeron MW - the first French female to earn the accolade of Master of Wine and the first MW to focus exclusively on natural wine. Isabelle created RAW to provide wine fans with a unique opportunity to taste and buy a variety of fine wines from exciting wine scene-newcomers of the likes of Georgia and Serbia as well as wines from classic regions such as Burgundy, Bordeaux and Piedmont all in the same place. The show will feature cult producers, classic household names as well as future stars, and even some who will be showing their wines in the UK for the first time ever.

Over 3,000 visitors attended the fair in 2012 including 1,900 trade visitors made up of sommeliers and managers from some of London's top restaurants, plus wine merchants and buyers from around the world.

Despite being a traditional concept, due to modern farming techniques and technologies, the production of natural wine has become relatively rare, with the majority of wine now mass-produced. The show features organic and biodynamic wines, made with minimal intervention in the winery, without the use of selected yeasts, additives or heavy processing.

RAW is continuing in its mission to lead the charge for transparency including a charter of quality that exhibitors must adhere to. The charter includes requests that all grapes must be farmed organically or biodynamically, only indigenous yeasts used and clear labeling with the levels of sulphur. Isabelle says: "My aim is to promote transparency in the wine world in order to support the art of authentic wine production. I want to help people think about what they drink."

Dates: 19th - 20th May 2013 Sunday - open to public and trade, Monday - open to trade in the day, public early evening.  For more information visit: www.rawfair.com

a perfect backdrop to the festival spanning the May bank holiday - 23rd to the 26th. The festival, in it’s 6th year, is going from strength to strength attracting local, as well as further afield, beer and cider enthusiasts.

Again we have scoured the country from the East to West coasts and much in between to hand pick the best beer and cider the UK has to offer.  We're selecting newly emerging breweries, relaunching some firm favourites as well as providing much loved beers as voted by our supporters who have selected exactly what they want at this event.  All in all a great selection of tried, tested and tasted beers and ciders ensuring that everybody’s pallets are quenched.  Whether it’s dark, hoppy, malty or pale beers or a choice of one of our popular ciders, there’s a wide range of 40 plus different styles to choose from.

Last year we introduced the popular drip mat currency and this year sees us continuing with the same theme.  Support from local companies is encouraging, attendance figures are already 15% up from last year with pre-booked tickets being purchased (taking advantage of the early bird booking discount) and a fantastic line-up of local, talented musicians providing a perfect soundtrack to the event.

We still have some great & affordable sponsorship options available to local businesses from inclusion in the festival brochure to sponsorship of a cask of ale which includes beer vouchers and free entry for 4 persons.

Bring together the best of local food, drink, crafts and family entertainment. Every year Alder Carr Farm try to raise as much money for charity as possible at the same time as celebrating the Great British strawberry! This year our chosen charity is: The Suffolk Horse Society.

The 2013 Strawberry Fayre plans to be bigger and better than ever, and as usual its all in aid of charity. This annual event brings together the very best of local food, drink, crafts and children's activities and celebrating the Great British strawberry.  This year we will be supporting The Suffolk Horse Society and we hope to raise lots of money for them. Our entertainment area went down very well last year so we are going to be expanding on this, offering more free activities encouraging people to spend more time lingering and therefore spending!

New for this year:  a magnificent Suffolk Punch horse from the Suffolk Horse Society, our Shetland pony - so we'll have little and large, a huge combine for children to explore, Audrey our vintage ice cream van, and additional activities like our bale mountain which was very popular.

The stall fee is £25 for a 3m x 3m stall, larger pitches are available upon request. Tables can be provided for £10. Contact Eleanor & Barry Sheldrake, Alder Carr Farm Shop on 01449 720820  email: eleanor@aldercarrfarm.co.uk

On Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September Alex James' idyllic Cotswolds farm will play host to a family festival like no other, with music and food taking centre stage.
Last year's sell out event set a precedence for good old fashioned family fun, boasting performances from Paloma Faith, Texas and Razorlight alongside chefs including Bill Grainger, Mark Hix, Valentine Warner and Jamie himself cooking up a storm. The good times didn’t stop there, with kids TV stars, cookery schools and an amazing offering of prestigious food and drink outlets providing some top nosh for foodie fanatics of all ages.

The Brecks Food Festival 2013
Sunday 01 September 2013 - Monday 30 September 2013

The Brecks Food Festival is part The Norfolk Food Festival which takes part during the month of September. The main focus of The festival is the third weekend in September (and the weeks either side) but events can be held throughout the month.

The organisers are aiming to put together a busy diary for this year’s festival and I would like to hear from Producers in The Brecks Area that would like to put on an event or indeed are doing something connected with Food, Farming & The Countryside during September and would appreciate some additional publicity. All events will be listed on The Norfolk Food Festival Website as well as www.brecks.org & www.aroundswaffham.co.uk . In addition participants would be able to demonstrate their involvement by using The Brecks Food Festival logo on their website.

Already planned are a pop-up restaurant at Elvedon, a Harvest Festival for local schools in Swaffham, a pop up breakfast at The Assembly Rooms in Swaffham & a farmers market on the Sunday in Swaffham. It would be great to have events throughout the whole Brecks though!

If you are interested in getting involved please email Sarah Simonds, of ScottsField Pork at scottsfieldpork@btinternet.com

Walk With A Fork - Fund-raising Event for Ormiston Childrens & Family Trust
Sunday 01 September 2013 Helmingham Hall, Suffolk (map)

Ormiston Children & Families Trust is pleased to announce that the inaugural Walk with a Fork will be taking place on Sunday 1st September 2013 at Helminghall Hall, Suffolk. With kind permission from Lord & Lady Tollemache, Walk with a Fork will be an 8 mile walk around the Helmingham Estate - with some parts of the route not usually accessible to the public. This event is family and dog friendly, definitely a walk not a race, a day out with a difference. The route is across farmland and therefore may not be suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

To make this walk different from others, along the route there will be several food and drink stops where producers from East Anglia will be offering samples of their food. For example, at the start of the walk, walkers will be offered a bacon and/or sausage sandwich and a hot drink, further along perhaps some local cheese washed down with a small glass of beer. It would be fantastic to have a hog roast at the halfway barn and towards the end of the walk a cream tea, ice cream or some other type of dessert or cake. (All participants to be confirmed nearer the time.)

Walkers must pre-register with the Event Organisers and will be sent a welcome pack. This will include an overview of the Walk, details of start time, an insight into Ormiston and also information about the suppliers. The participants will pay an entry fee to take part and we will encourage walkers to raise additional sponsorship that Ormiston can use to continue with our work supporting over 130,000 children and their families throughout East Anglia.
On the day suppliers will hand out product information and will have a stall at the end of Walk, probably within the Courtyard at Helmingham Hall, where they can sell more produce.

We currently have over 40 services across East Anglia, including children’s centres, visiting support services in prison, family intervention projects, parenting support programmes and more. Ormiston is a pioneering children’s charity, with a reputation for ground-breaking and brave work, seeking out the children and families most at risk in our society. At Ormiston we want to make sure all children get the very best start in life – whatever their circumstances.

TRADE SHOW

In recent years the National Fruit Show has become a major national event in the wider horticultural industry's calendar attracting serious interest from politicians, policy makers and industry leaders. Other sectors of the horticultural industry are increasingly becoming involved with exhibiting at the show from the tomato industry to English wine producers, not to mention the continued links with hop growing and fruit processors and juicers.
